Zomato has announced on its app that starting May 16th, 2025, the platform will start charging a rain fee for gold members too. Until now, Zomato has been offering full discounts for Gold members on the rain fee, delivery fee (under 7km) and surge fee (during high demand & festive time). Do keep in mind, a platform fee of Rs.10 is charged for all members including Gold. Starting May 16th, 2025, Gold members now will also need to pay for rain fees.

Zomato Rain Fee for Gold Members from 16th May!

In India, Monsoon has almost arrived and food delivery partners are often found charging an additional “rain surcharge fee” during this time which ranges anywhere from Rs.15 to Rs.35 or even more.

(On a side note, if you constantly order from Zomato, be sure to use Zomato coupon codes & Axis Neo credit card if you’ve to get a 40% discount on your order)

As per the latest announcement from Zomato on its app, it seems ordering food online is only going to get expensive even for Gold member users.

Swiggy is no different either. Zomato’s perhaps biggest rival, Swiggy backed by Softbank also charges an additional rain fee during monsoon.

Explaining the removal of benefits for Gold members, Zomato says “this fee helps us compensate better for our delivery partners” but are users willing to accept this proposal? Lack of transparency of how this fee is used to compensate delivery partners is a question several users on the internet have.

Nevertheless, it is not only Zomato which is now turning back to its premium subscribers. The other day, we informed you about how Prime Video subscribers now need to pay extra for ads-free experience.

@Vrushali.S So they are not forcing you to order from their platform its a business strategy and they do have rights to change as they move forward, where was this worriedness when Jio increased their tariffs to 100%?
Boss try to support the indigenous platforms, I order every alternate day from Zomato and I have never ever paid more than the offline price for any item, every one of us enjoy hefty benefits of those 50% & 60% promo, let them do their business and let us mind ours. Who wants to order will keep ordering who can't afford will keep blaming.

@qwertyaaditya759 Why are you so worked up? relax. Nobody is boycotting zomato here. Everybody has a right to share their opinion just like you do. That was a simple comment. You are taking it to a different level altogether. Anyways, that's all from my side. This conversation ends right here for me. Continue if you want.

@qwertyaaditya759 Its not about paying delivery fee or not but about platforms sticking to their promises/claims.

These charges are really making us think. When you can just pay the regular price for food at the restaurant, why bother with memberships and a bunch of credit cards for discounts? You end up having to do all this math to figure out if the final price is even less than the original – is it really worth it? yum

Very true, if someone wants to trade a bit more fees in exchange of convenience, only then it makes sense perhaps
