I Just went to app, send money to bank, filled amount as 5001 & found convenience charge as 0, for 5000 it shows CC as 100
I am not even Airtel customer, so KYC is out of question

Did you just try doing that or did you send the money? Only if you send you will know that it will give the error.

OP @denz37 is Dumbow, Airtel Money does’t allow to withdraw more than 5k in one go and always when u enter it doesn’t shows any concession charges. Even if your account is KYC Verified. At last stage it will show invalid amount.

Don’t misguide others you will make people lose money. I lost money Rs.100/- bcoz of ur post, i had loaded with 5010/- but it didnt allowed me to withdraw more than 5k, and when i entered 5k it charged 100 convenience charge.

@Nigel @admin Plz delete this, it is invalid.

What you have stated is your opinion. What I have stated is my knowledge. Maybe because I work in the finance + IT domain. I can’t say more for the sake of Privacy. I don’t work for long hours (most days) but what I do, very few can do, so I get paid well.

About your argument of cash (bank withdrawal) being legal as the wallets are allowing it – think of this : in Bangalore you can drive on the right side of some roads, the cops will not not stop you or penalize you, but that doesn’t make it legal. In the current monetary situation, some wallets have waived off withdrawal charges to facilitate higher usage. It is not for people to withdraw money from CC to Bank. Wallets charge for withdrawal to bank to deter people from doing it, not to pay for their servers.

It’s not an opinion what everyone above has stated and those are facts. You are just trying to argue for no reasons. Wouldn’t want to argue on something baseless.

By the way your example of Bangalore right side driving (Majestic) is farce. It’s allowed by the administration itself for easy access to the bus terminals. And stop saying that service fee is deter people, huh https://cdn2.desidime.com/assets/textile-editor/icon_evil.gif

PS- Please don’t try to tell us you get paid well so you are the one smarter and what you have said always holds true.

So what it was in Hot Deals section & now in Dost & Dimes section, discussion was really hot.

So you possess some rare skill set which not many have but that is making you draw good compensation. Good.

It is all about moral vs legal. I still don’t call it illegal but definitely this is misappropriation or misuse of system. As you said you are good in finance + IT, I hope you are good in legal also…
There is difference in tax evasion & tax saving.
Though income tax act provides all rules still people take out measures to avoid tax, few call it tax saving, ITD calls it tax evading.
Only appropriate authority can decide what’s legal or not.
RBI allowed loading wallets with cc, allowed withdrawing in banks, they had not anticipated that it can be misused in big way… Banks made hue & cry about this fact long back… RBI already has this in their cognizance. Considering depth & penetration of market, to promote digitization, they are yet not gone ahead & have not put any condition explicitly.
Their master circular covers all sort of things. Forget regulator, even parties like freecharge, Paytm, mobikwik have risk management in place & know all this. Nothing is out of their sight. Why do amazon or other ecomm bleed? To make a mark that no one can beat. In progression these wallets are allowing trf to bank. If there was rbi circular prohibiting this, they would have done this in first place. Already rbi restrict loading of multiple wallets by same card, same account mapped in more than 2 wallets etc.
Wallets charge as they have to pay their settler (gateways) for collecting funds loaded by us via different modes. Many wallets already had slabs for loading with respective charges. Airtel money, Vodafone Mpesa, mrupee, etc
If they eased it that was to make it popular. Already Popular wallets like Paytm mobikwik oxigen freecharge don’t charge as they different model of working & backing.
Once payment banks setup is done, Paytm is going to change a lot.
I don’t promote loading wallets by cc & taking it back to bank on regular basis. I discourage that for larger benefit.

@enapster I am sorry to say that your understanding of the RBI rules for bank withdrawals from the wallets and the reason wallets charge a withdrawal fee are wrong.

(1) Wallets charge a bank withdrawal fee only to offset their payment gateway fees. Some wallets may charge more than others to encourage spending within their own ecosystem, which is profitable for them. Many wallets are presently allowing free bank withdrawals (at a loss to them — think of it as promotional/CAC expense) to encourage adoption of their services and to not miss out on the “go cashless” craze.

(2) Bank withdrawal of wallet money is indeed legal as per RBI. They only disallow “cash” withdrawals and say the following for any other case: “The entities issuing such instrument may ensure that these instruments are made acceptable only at institutions which maintain the identity of the customers.” Banks certainly maintain identity of consumers so no issue on that front either. If this had remained in Hot Deals, I would not have responded. Now that it’s moved to DnD, let me take a bite:

All you guys are so easy to provoke. I just throw you a rope and you latch onto it and start climbing. Some of you are frustrated because you lost money. Accept you made a mistake and move on. You will find many more genuine opportunities.

I said – “Maybe because I work in the finance + IT domain.” and you got carried away. Let’s say – Maybe I work for the RBI and trying to find public pulse from these forums and how civilians are misusing policies. LOL.

You cant accept your own mistake, you are getting personal everytime, you think you know everything of everything. tell yourself whatever you want but tell it to yourself.
Also use burnoil for burnt areas. You can buy it from a Semi-closed wallet which your Master has approved and behave like a good servant.

Different things are said by Each Dimer. And they also spoke about actual CASH Meaning and gave some references from RBI etc etc. They tried to say that Withdrawing from Wallets to Bank is Illegal but I just want to say something.

If Withdrawing to Bank itself is Illegal…

Vodafone is allowing us to withdraw ACTUAL CASH from M-Pesa Wallet thru an agent just like ATM which is a Clear violation of that RBI reference.

The only thing I am worried about is, what kind I explanation do we need to give during IT Returns. Because, For middle-class FEAR is the Regular word. I am an adult almost 30 yet I fear and more than me, my dad fears alot, that shivers me. I just talked to him regarding this…

Deal Cadet Deal Cadet

Hi hustle,
Vodafone M-pesa is slightly different. If you have time you can go through their TnC actually with M-pesa ICICI Bank has a joint venture. So when you open/upgrade to an advanced M-pesa with KYC done you get to hold a no frills account maintained by ICICI and this Vodafone-ICICI M-pesa Account is therefore is not bound by same regulations which are applicable to say paytm or mobikwik or freecharge or anyother similar type of wallet.
Vodafone M-pesa powered by ICICI is* Open System Payment Instrument* i.e. OPEN WALLET_ in short which is allowed to do type of transactions which you have mentioned by law, that is by Banking Correspondent i.e. BC (Agent). Unlike the Closes and semi-closed wallet, in the open wallet of VODAFONE-ICICI BANK M-pesa the agents and The BCs are allowed to act as virtual banks for people in rural areas so that financial inclusion which is one of the goals of the current NDA Govt. is achieved.

I hope that answers your query and you dont have to fear. I believe all the online wallets act as per the regulations of RBI and no wallet whatsoever has done anything illegal till now as far as i know because i havnt heard or read any such news till now. Most of these E-wallets want to migrate themselves as payment banks and hence they strictly follow RBI regulations as Payment Bank license are issued by RBI. so just dont fear about M-pesa
