I have just learnt driving. Need to clear two things.

1. Suppose I need to take u-turn on a junction where there is right turn. Then I wait for green right arrow signal and then i take u- turn correct?

2. Suppose I need to take u-turn on a junction where is there no right turn.  Then when should i take uturn? Should i take uturn when red signal is there on both sides of the road or should i take uturn when my front signal turns green for straight? Really confusing me

1) Yes

2) when your straight signal is green

2) So if my straight signal is green then its evident that on the other side of the road also straight signal is green. Won't there be accident while taking uturn that time?

Some instructor was telling me when my signal is red then other side signal also red then easily uturn. Don't know what is the right rule. Please enlighten

May you get to explore the freedom, convenience and joys of driving while ensuring safety (of self, of others).

Yes, that is correct. Legally, logically and to ensure safety of everyone
only once the right turn signal turns green, should one CAUTIOUSLY take the U-turn.

Otherwise, it can get messy. https://www.thehindu.com/news/cities/Hyderabad/traffic-rules-given-a-go-by-at-u-turns/article34125865.ece.

In so far as I know, in such a situation, taking a U-turn will be in contravention of the current traffic rules.

Hopefully others here would correct me, if what I stated above is way off the mark and is wrong.

The jh transport article seems very outdated, and contradictory.

There are specific widening lanes at medians on highways to enable people to take safe u turns. It also states no u turns at signals, that would mean practically no u turns ever.

If its a traffic department designed and approved U turn, you will have a sign mentioning U turn, and there will be a green signal specially for U turn.
If not, there is nothing legal that you need to follow (if your main concern is getting a traffic violation ticket). Only if there is sign specifically prohibiting U turn, you will get a traffic violation ticket. In the case of a non designed U turn, but not explicitly prohibited, you just take a call depending on the traffic on both sides and when you feel safe, take the turn. Since it is not a designed U turn, you will have to face honking from the traffic behind you while you wait for the U turn, but don't get afraid of it, your safety is more important.
