Weird PhonePe wallet catch-22 situation
I rarely used PhonePe. Recently received an offline payment offer which is decent (Flat 25 CB for min 100 payment @offline shops to be settled entirely using wallet balance).
So, loaded 110 in wallet. When I tried to pay 105 in a kirana store using PhonePe QR, only UPI option came. I fiddled with it for sometime but Phonepe won’t let me use the wallet balance. I ended up paying using UPI.
A search in DD showed several horror stories where dimers had thousands stuck in Phonepe wallet.

Apparently merchants need to enable payment via wallet balance in PhonePe and most never do that.
Why PhonePe gives an offer if it can’t be utilised or the balance can’t be returned to bank account?
110 not a huge amount but is there any way to pay using PhonePe wallet balance to offline shops?

some merchants subscribed wallet and 90% not subscribed wallet
You can buy a gift card using phonepe wallet check zingoy or komprify
shops like mother dairy also accept wallet balance
Same for me. I also received this offer. Infact while making payment to the shop banner was also shown. Even after that I didn’t receive the cashback. I raised support ticket. Thry said the txn isnt eligible as per the system ( I am like then why the banner was shown)
I guess not worthy to hassle this much for 25 rs offer via phonepe wallet. Seems like waste to me
Petrol Pumps mostly works with wallet 0.75% cb too
And try that nearby store options available on phonpe, you might be able to find stores where wallet option is available/

Merchants have deactivated the wallet because they have started charging % for every transaction so obviously they opt for UPI

@Chikky @Smiling Actually I can try smaller recharge or buy GVs but wondering if there is way to use the wallet balance to pay in offline shops to use the offer I received.
Isn’t it a bit silly to keep scanning QR codes from shop to shop hoping some will accept wallet balance?
Any idea if shops like Reliance Fresh/More Retail accept PhonePe wallet payment?
Yea bro ,big chains like reliance have phonepe payment embedded in their system (i.e. you dont need to scan any qr, just tell otp)
They would 100% accept wallet balance, but not sure if the offer would apply there, havent read the terms actually and not using phonepe much

Now I understand why PhonePe has such a hard-on for autopay. They just want to earn interest from money trapped in wallet.

Can’t this wallet balance be used for recharges/bill payments.?
