In India people mostly use electric water heaters or gas geysers for hot water baths, washing utensils, cleaning apparels, etc. There is one more way of generating hot water instantly. We are talking about the Electric Shower Heads. These are new in India, but that day is not far when it will be seen in every household due to its various benefits.

Electric Shower Heads help you take a hot shower bath instantly. They contain a heating element. This heating element uses electricity to get heated up. When the water flows through this heating element, it gets converted into hot water.

Best Electric Shower Heads with Buying Guide

Electric Shower Head Buying Guide

Now, let's get into the Electric Shower Head Buying Guide which will not only help you make an informed decision, but also show you various benefits of this amazing electrical.

Temperature Settings

Electric shower heads come with a knob for Temperature Settings. You can set it to low, medium, or high. The high setting allows to lower the water flow rate to the heating element, and thus gives more hot water. It is advisable to use the medium setting for consistent hot water with good water speed.

Power

Most Electric Shower Heads come in 110V and 220V. Before buying an electric shower head, get to know its kW power rating. The more the rating, the more is the pressure and temperature power.

Just as we saw in the Temperature Settings section above, high temperature water brings down the water flow rate. Thus, if kW rating was higher then high temperature water would have been generated at a faster pace which inturn maintains water speed and quickens water heating. This helps in getting a great hot shower experience.

The kW rating ranges from 7.5kW to 10.5kW in electric shower heads. If you buy one with higher kW then its price will increase so make sure to buy as per your requirement.

Usage

Electric shower heads are used in small cabins, poolside showers, washing stalls, horse trailers, servicing cars, outdoor camping, hotels, small roadside restaurants, and more. You can use it for daily hot showers as they make bathing quick & effective. These can also be used as hand-held showers with hose.

Connection Requirements

You will need electric cables and water pipes for all round connection. A 15mm water pipe is recommended for connecting the electric shower head to the water supply. It is good to have an Isolation valve so that if there are any short circuit issues then water supply can be stopped immediately.

Connection Requirements for a Shower within 18 metres of a electricity connection

Showers up to 7 kW

6mm cable | 32 AMP fuse and switch

Showers up to 9 kW

6mm cable | 40 AMP fuse and switch

Connection Requirements for a Shower within 35 metres of a electricity connection

Showers up to 9.5 kW

10mm cable | 45 AMP fuse and switch

Showers up to 12.5 kW

10mm cable | 50 AMP fuse and switch

Water Pressure Requirements

Electric Shower Heads can adapt to any water system, but it is advisable to follow the below given Water Pressure Requirements. Also, do check the requirements mentioned in the product’s description as it may vary product-wise.

  • Minimum running water pressure should be 1 bar.
  • Water flow rate should be 8 litres/min.
  • Maximum static pressure should be 10 bar.

For instance, Lorenzetti Coral Max’s 220V electric shower head works with water pressure of 2-120 PSI and circuit breaker of 30 AMP.

Instant Hot Showers?

If you are looking for instant hot showers then this question should be on your list before buying an electric shower head. As we saw in the Temperature Settings and Power sections above, if your shower has a high kW rating then it will deliver instant hot water along with maintaining high water speed. However, you can also go with a lesser kW rating shower within your budget for instant hot showers.

Water and Energy Savings

Electric Showers heat up only that much water which is being used by you at that time thus saving energy. Moreover, the water flow rate is less due to processing time which helps in saving on water bills. If you are looking for a great hot shower experience then you need to compromise a bit on these savings.

Installation

These are easy to install, but advised not to do it yourself as water is a good conductor of electricity so can be risky. Moreover, electric shower heads are versatile so can fit in almost all spaces. Additionally, these are compact so don't take much space and also have very minimal tubing and wiring.

Material

Electric Shower Heads with PP engineering plastic are good for high temperature resistance and high shape stability. This helps in durability and effective operations in the long run.

Pricing

Electric Shower Heads cost somewhere around Rs 1500-3500 in India. This is because they are imported. Once they become popular, pricing may come down (to as low as Rs 500) due to bulk imports and in-house manufacturing. Also, they can become a cheap water heater option compared to electric geysers and gas geysers. Thus, makes it suitable for individuals and families looking for daily economic hot shower options.

Guarantee & Warranty

Some of the electric shower heads come with guarantee as well as warranty. For instance, Lorenzetti Coral Max gives a 30-day money back guarantee and Pefeceve official store gives a 75-day money back guarantee. Besides, some provide a warranty of 3-6 months.

I would rather use a plain and simple geyser for safety reasons. If these gizmos malfunction, the user will get shock and lose consciousness while family members would not know what happened since the bathroom door would be closed. None can come and help.

      1. Safety concern. Shocks or earth currents.

      2. No versatility. Normal geyser can route water everywhere from kitchen to washbasin, not these ones. 😊

      3. Maintenance issues. If the pores choke, you may not want to mess with it yourself or let an ordinary electrician/plumber fix it.
