As you can see this old tweet from Flipkart, dated 1st April, 2012 announces the launch of Flipkart Tickets. While many users got “fooled” by this April Fools prank, some users were quick to understand the trick.
After 14 years, this old tweet has started to resurface as the news of Flipkart actually launching Flipkart Tickets has started to get more real. Especially after a reputed news agency like Reuters made a post stating
“Walmart's Flipkart plans foray into India's ticketing market as live events boom, sources say.”
So the question still remains. Is Flipkart going to sell movie and concert tickets? The answer is a possible yes.
As per a report from Reuters,
“Indian e-commerce firm Flipkart plans to sell movie and concert tickets in India, moving into a fast-growing space driven by consumers spending more on entertainment, two sources familiar with the matter said.”
As per a report by EY, India’s M&E (Movies and Entertainment) market grew by 9% reaching INR 2.78 trillion in 2025. With numerous international artists pulling massive crowds with concerts like Coldplay, Ed Sheeran, Dua Lipa, Post Malone, and Travis Scott in India.
As per news reports, Flipkart is looking to tap into the M&E sector of India by launching Flipkart Tickets, a direct competitor to BookMyShow, Zomato’s District, Paytm (now owned by District) and other movie ticketing platforms.
If we go by the reports, Flipkart is expected to launch Flipkart Movie Tickets platform in May 2026. Note that the brand is also allegedly going to pilot food delivery in the same month. So the timelines might switch as plans evolve.
