Is OnePlus shutting down in India? OnePlus isn’t exiting India completely but there are some “unsettling” shifts you cannot overlook anymore.

OnePlus (started in 2013) as a pure online brand is again going back to an online-first model (D2C) in 2026.

Distributors in the general trade channel have also been given a deadline of March 31 as their final billing date - as per a reputed news agency. The exit of OnePlus CEO Robin Liu by 31st March has further fueled the news of the OnePlus shutdown in India.

OnePlus is shutting down most of its offline partner-run stores in India along with shifting warranty & service operations to Oppo. With the OnePlus CEO resignation, alleged deadline of March 31st given to distributors, exit from select global markets, software merger with Oppo’s ColourOS, dropping market share from 15% in year 2022 to only 2.5% in Q3 of 2025 (IDC Report) and now sticking to an online-only business model, OnePlus fans and users are afraid this might just be leading to the end of OnePlus in India.

• As per a news report, partners running exclusive OnePlus stores across India are asked to shut by March 31 while only three company owned stores remain open in Hyderabad, Chennai, and Bengaluru.

• OnePlus is moving to an online first sales model with upcoming launches like Nord 6 listed on Amazon India is to be sold exclusively online.

• OnePlus is also shutting down in US markets.

• General trade distributors in India have March 31 as final billing date and must clear inventory without any transition period

• Modern retail partners have been allegedly told billing will pause for weeks after March 31 even for new product launches.

• OnePlus India CEO Robin Liu has resigned & is now serving a notice period ending by March 31 amid the restructuring

• OPPO invested 10 billion yuan into OnePlus in 2022. Despite this, the market share of OnePlus in India has dropped from 15% in 2022 to just 2.5% in Q3 2025 hinting towards the possible reason for the OnePlus closing its offline operations in India.

• From April 2026 OnePlus users can access OPPO service centres increasing service coverage from about 400 to 600 plus locations.

• OnePlus merged its software team with Oppo in 2021, shifting OxygenOS to a shared, unified codebase with ColorOS.

• OnePlus has initiated the ColorOS 16 (Android 16) rollout in China and the same will be seen in India and other markets.

Remember January? OnePlus India CEO Robin Liu took to X to debunk rumors, calling reports of a shutdown "misinformation."

Though, it seems otherwise now.

As per a report, due to global restructuring within the OPPO Group, Robin Liu was reportedly asked to report to Realme CEO Sky Li and being told to report to the "sibling" brand's boss apparently put the final nail in the coffin.

OnePlus is promising to continue to provide warranty and service support to OnePlus devices via Oppo’s service centers.

This should ideally include programs such as OnePlus Free Screen Replacement also known as OnePlus Lifetime Display Warranty.

However, we noticed something unusual. Earlier, the brand used to provide an online diagnostic form wherein users could put their IMEI number and check if their OnePlus phone is eligible for free screen replacement or not and book an appointment for a visit This link is currently inactive.

On a side note, OnePlus shut down in India might also be due to the narrowing profit margins. In April 2024, a community thread appeared on OnePlus explaining how narrowing profit margins, delays in claim processing and bundling has led to distributors discontinuing selling OnePlus smartphones in India.

The OnePlus Nord 6 is coming with a massive 9,000mAh battery, 165 FPS gaming, UFS 4.1 256gb ROM and a Snapdragon 8s Gen 4. On paper, it looks like a good phone. But buying a phone is now as much about the brand’s future as it is about the phone’s specs.

The OnePlus isn't "shutting down" in the sense of disappearing forever, but the OnePlus we knew, the “Flagship Killer” is gone. If you're a die-hard fan of the OnePlus branding and love ColorOS features, go for it. But if you value "brand stability” it might be a good idea to wait and watch how all of this unfolds.

As per the latest report by CounterPoint Research, the Indian smartphone market dropped 9% YOY in week 1 to week 9 of 2026 vs 2025 likely due to the rising memory prices leading Android OEMs to increase existing smartphone prices.

Another recent report by International Data Corporation (IDC) said something very important:
“While memory prices are projected to stabilize by mid-2027, they are unlikely to return to previous levels — making the sub-$100 segment (171 million devices) permanently uneconomical”.
