Rejoice! The last date to link Aadhaar cards to PAN cards has been changed to 30 June. This comes as a great relief for those who wouldn’t have been able to link their Aadhaar and PAN cards till 31st March. The Government of India decided to shift the last date of linking Aadhaar to PAN cards as there were a large number of people who couldn’t get them linked earlier or were not aware of the news for one or more reasons. So, for better or worse, the PAN to Aadhaar link last date has now been extended to 30th June 2023. The citizens still have to pay a fine of Rs 1,000 to link their Aadhaar to PAN.

PAN to Aadhaar Link Last Date Extended Till 30 June 2023

In a release on March 28, the Finance Ministry said that the new last date for linking your Aadhaar to PAN card will be 30 June 2023. If anyone fails to link their Aadhaar card and PAN card by 30th June, their PAN card will become inoperative from 31 July, said the Finance Ministry. Let’s take a closer look at the ministry’s statements in this article.

Last Date to Link PAN with Aadhaar Extended Till 30 June!

As discussed earlier, the last date now to link your Aadhaar and PAN cards will be 30 June. It might be good news for those who may not have linked these two of their identity cards by now, but that’s really all there’s to it. The fine of Rs 1000 for linking one’s PAN card to their Aadhaar card is still payable and applicants must pay the fine before the 30th of June, 2023. So, there’s a high chance that if some people didn’t link their PAN cards to their Aadhaar cards just because of that fine of ₹1,000, they may not link the two cards even with the extended last date.

If that is the case and someone does not get his/her PAN card and Aadhaar card linked, his/her PAN card will become inoperative. Here’s what the Press Information Bureau said:

“From 1st July, 2023, the PAN of taxpayers who have failed to intimate their Aadhaar, as required, shall become inoperative and the consequences during the period that PAN remains inoperative will be as follows:

  1. no refund shall be made against such PANs;

  2. interest shall not be payable on such refund for the period during which PAN remains inoperative; and

  3. TDS and TCS shall be deducted /collected at higher rate, as provided in the Act.”

Keeping the same in mind, it is clear that the consequences of not linking your Aadhaar card with your PAN card may not be so good. The PIB further added “The PAN can be made operative again in 30 days, upon intimation of Aadhaar to the prescribed authority after payment of fee of Rs.1,000.

Those persons who have been exempted from PAN-Aadhaar linking will not be liable to the consequences mentioned above. This category includes those residing in specified States, a non-resident as per the Act, an individual who is not a citizen of India or individuals of the age of eighty years or more at any time during the previous year.”

So, according to the Press Information Bureau, those who are not able to link their PAN cards to their Aadhaar cards by the extended last date of 30 June, can make their PAN cards operative again within 30 days by paying a fine of Rs 1,000. Thus, it seems that the Rs 1,000 fine is almost inevitable for many.

Though, there are certain categories of people who are not obliged to link their Aadhaar cards with PAN cards or pay any such fee, which is a big relief for many. Lastly, PIB mentioned that more than 51 crore PANs have already been linked with Aadhaar. With this, the press release announcing the extended last date to link PAN to Aadhaar met its end. The new, extended last date to link Aadhaar to PAN is 30 June 2023.

Fine seems to be very steep for the labour class, I don't understand what's the logic of such steep penalty cause the MAJORITY of the one's who don't link it are from the lowest level of the income pyramid and they still have a hard time to understand how to link it On one side they fear that their accounts will be zeroed if they share their details and petty shopkeepers who do this linking work are charging their commission on this late fee nor well as daily wage worker waste his whole day for linking in queues at govt authorised centers
