Yesterday, Amazon announced that Jeff Bezos will step down from his CEO position in the third quarter of this year. He will now take the position of Executive Chairman in the company. Jeff Bezos said that he wants to concentrate on his passions like Day 1 Fund, Bezos Earth Fund, Blue Origin, Washington Post, and others which is why he took this decision.
Meanwhile, Amazon, for the first time, achieved $100+ Billions in quarterly sales. Additionally, the company reported its 3rd consecutive record profit. Experts assumed $119.7 in net sales, but it was way ahead at $125.56 which shows how well Amazon has utilised the lockdown period. Moreover, it broke records in online, subscription, third party, and other sales.

In the third quarter of this year, Amazon’s cloud computing head Andy Jassy will take over the chair of CEO. Andy Jassy has been working with Amazon for the past 23 years. He was the one who laid out the foundation of Amazon Web Services(AWS) which is a widely used cloud computing platform around the world. Although, AWS achieved a lesser revenue of $12.7 Billion compared to $12.8 as told by experts.
Andy Jassy, soon after completing his MBA from Harvard Business School, joined Amazon. Just 3 years in the company, he was assisting Jeff Bezos in technical development. In addition, he played a key role in rising Amazon from an online book store.
It will be interesting to see how Andy Jassy shifts gears from AWS to the new CEO tag. Also, how Jeff Bezos can still play a leading role in his own founded Amazon. What do you think about this? Do share your views with us via the comments box below.
