The Clubhouse app has gained popularity as big names, Elon Musk, Mark Zuckerberg, Oprah Winfrey, and others have used it. Moreover, it had 6 lakh users (as of December 2020) as per a report by The New York Times. Additionally, it has reached to 5M+ downloads on Google Play Store in a short time.

It received a $12 million investment from Andreessen Horowitz after two months of its launch. In a quick time it reached $100 million when it had only 1500 users, and as of April 2021, it has surpassed $4 billion as per PCMag’s report.

What is the Clubhouse App?

Clubhouse is an audio-based social media app. You can connect with your friends, family, colleagues, and like-minded individuals via audio-chat rooms in this app. The only way to communicate here is with your voice.

A chat room can accompany upto 5000 users so there’s plenty of space available. Here, you can either participate in conversation or just listen to others' live conversations i.e. conversations you would like to be a part of.

There are many categories which you can follow such as sports, life, faith, places, wellness, tech, etc. Therefore, the Clubhouse app is useful in carrying out audio meetings, conferences, events, live podcasts, and more with just focusing on speaking and listening.

Clubhouse App Features

Let's have a look at Clubhouse App’s unique features which are currently accessible to only a few.

Chat Rooms

Chat Rooms are where users communicate with each other via audio (voice). There are 3 types of rooms which can be created namely open rooms, social rooms, and closed rooms.

Open Rooms - Anyone on Clubhouse can join.

Social Rooms - Whoever the room creator or organizer follows can join.

Closed Rooms - A user can join only if he/she receives an invitation from the organizer.

Now, inside a room there are 3 areas namely stage, speakers, and listeners. The organizer can invite a user to the stage to become a speaker. It can also mute users and remove them as speakers.

If a listener wants to speak then he/she can click on the “raise hand” icon, but it depends on the room creator to allow it or not. If you want to leave the room, you need to click on “leave quietly” or the peace emoji.

Scheduled Events

Users can schedule a conversation event by giving the event name, start date, and start time. They can also mention co-hosts to control the event. Whenever an event is created it is shown in the “Bulletin” section which is under the “calendar” section . This section lists all the upcoming events and users can set an alert by clicking the bell icon.

Community Clubs

Club is a place where a user community often meets to converse on their topic of interest. There are many clubs you can follow which are on various topics. If a user is active and has created at least 3 rooms then only the user can create a club.

Home and Explore Pages

Clubhouse’s homepage shows you ongoing chat rooms based on the people, clubs, and topics you follow. On this page, there is a ‘magnifying glass’ icon which when clicked takes you to the explore page. Here, you can browse & search for people, clubs, and topics based on your interests.

Content Monetization

The Creator First feature helps creators or influencers build their audience and monetize their content via rooms. This monetization is to be done via the Clubhouse Payments feature (in development). Here, attendees can send money/fees online to the creator.

Hey, It’s doesn’t work like that, as how I know.
It’s specific to particular contact. So only those who are using it can share with you.

There is no invite link. Each existing users will get 3 invites initially and later get more depends on the activity.
This can be shared to only saved contacts and only that person can use it.

Another way is just register without invite and you will be in waiting list. All existing users who saved you as a contact will get a notification and they will be able to let you in.
