Flipkart has launched a much-needed "Sell Back Program" that allows smartphone owners to quickly sell their used smartphones and earn back gift cards. Although, at first, it will be limited to smartphones. It will ultimately encompass more Flipkart product categories. This program is now available following Flipkart's acquisition of Yaantra. Furthermore, this new service is already operational in over 1,500 pin codes throughout India's main cities. Here's how to use Flipkart's new Sell Back Program to sell your smartphone.

According to a press release from Flipkart, the scheme allows consumers to sell their smartphones on the site, whether they are Apple or Vivo devices, and receive Flipkart Electric Gift Vouchers in exchange. The gift vouchers can then be used to purchase any product on the e-commerce platform or deduct the gift card amount from the price of a given product.

According to Flipkart, only 20 million (approximately) old smartphones in India reach the refurbished market, according to an IDC report. Almost 85% of old cellphones end up in the trash, contributing to the growing quantity of e-waste in the environment. This service aims to address this issue by providing customers with a secure venue to sell their devices and receive the appropriate buy-back value.

Prakash Sikaria, Senior Vice President and Head of Flipkart’s Growth Charter, said, “At Flipkart, we continuously work towards bringing smart-tech-enabled solutions to help our customers purchase the latest, desired products at best prices. As people continue to upgrade their devices, there is a growing market for reselling devices that is highly unorganized and difficult to navigate. With Flipkart’s Sell Back Programme, we aim to help organize this market. As the Indian consumer electronics industry witnesses rapid growth, this program will further our efforts towards reducing the generation of e-waste - which is a crucial step in creating a sustainable economy."

Before we go any further, it's worth noting that the program is only available on the Flipkart iOS and Android apps for now. To use this function, we recommend that you download or update the Flipkart app on your smartphone. Let's get started on the steps now that it's out of the way.

Step 1- Open the Flipkart app on your smartphone. Tap the middle icon at the bottom navigation bar. You will see a new “Sell Back” option below the game zone & feed.

Step 2 - Tap on it to open the “Sell Back Program” page on your device and tap the “Sell Now” option (any one of them) to initiate the process.

Step 3 - Now, answer the three given questions that require you to tell the phone’s brand, IMEI number (Call *#06#), and whether or not it switches on for verification.

Step 4 - Select your location and agree to the terms and conditions. You will see the value of your used smartphone at the top.

Flipkart will send its executive to pick up your smartphone. It is expected to be picked up in 48 hours and the voucher is expected to be issued within a few hours of the confirmation.

In addition, the company stated that later this year it will expand the Sell Back Programme to include other product categories. As a result, you might soon be able to sell used electronic devices on Flipkart, such as old headphones, Bluetooth speakers, or other accessories.
