Nothing said it was developing on a phone in March of this year, with a target release date of summer 2022. The London-based start-up is premised on the bold ambition to redefine our relationship with technology, or ‘making tech fun again’ has changed how we perceive tech.

The company's initial product, the Ear (1) earbuds, received positive feedback and has outperformed expectations in the market. Building a Nothing phone, on the other hand, has exposed the team to design, engineering, and supply issues like they've never seen before.

It's unclear how the Phone (1) will function as the core of Nothing's promised ecosystem, but there is already information about the phone's software, feature set, and possible hardware when it launches later this year.

Nothing Phone (1) – What to expect

We have been looking for the recent Nothing Phone 1 updates and we have hardly come across any exciting updates. However, on June 15th Nothing was teased with some exciting images on their Twitter handle about the aesthetic approach of their upcoming phone.

The Nothing phone (1) - sporting a transparent back panel with dual cameras and light strips. Now the phone (1) has starred in videos posted on YouTube by Rafael Zeier and Das Kann Was, giving us an even better look at it.

A flat design and antenna lines on the frame confirm a metal build. You can also see the smartphone has the power button on the right-side frame, with volume keys located on the left. At the bottom is the USB-C port, joined by a speaker grille and microphone.

The glowing lights look cool, but it's unclear if they will blink only for incoming notifications. We've seen some Oppo smartphones with Orbit Lights around the rear cameras which light up when you receive notifications, charge the phone, or launch a game.

Nothing Phone (1) – Launch Date

The company first confirmed that it was working on a smartphone at its 23 March event, but didn't offer much in the way of details, beyond promising a summer release.

The event also saw the reveal of Nothing OS – the Android-based user experience that the Nothing Phone (1) will run. While this won't officially launch until the phone does, part of the OS is already available to try in the form of a beta version of the Nothing Launcher, which is free to install and try out on smartphones running Android 11 and up.

On 10 May, Nothing confirmed that O2 would be Phone (1)'s exclusive network partner in the UK, while Telekom Deutschland and Flipkart will help bring the phone to European and Indian markets, respectively.

On 25 May, German tech site All-round PC claimed to have received pricing and availability information from a "European dealer," who wished to remain anonymous. According to FLIPKART, the Phone (1) will arrive as soon as 12 July at 8.30 PM, well within the company's promised arrival time of 'summer'.

It's assumed that the phone will also be available to buy directly from Nothing's website come launch; similarly, to its debut product, the Ear (1) true wireless earphones.

Nothing Phone (1) – Price

According to Flipkart, the price of the 8GB/256GB model of the Nothing phone (1) in India is Rs 32,999. Priced at Rs 35,999 for the 8GB/256GB and Rs 38,999 for the 12GB/256GB.

However, nothing has an inaugural discount on all three variants. With the discount, the phone (1) is priced at Rs 29,999 for the 8GB/128GB variant, Rs 32,999 for the 8GB/256GB variant and Rs 35,999 for the 12GB/256GB variant (including the additional HDFC bank offer). Users who pre-ordered the phone (1) will be able to buy the device right away, but an open sale for others will begin on July 21.

For starters, the phone is anticipated to follow Ear (1)'s aesthetic approach, which includes a transparent cover that shows the device's inner workings. 'When you look inside practically any Android phone, they're almost all the same,' Howard observes. 'Of course, the industry is optimizing everything they do, year after year, trying to squeeze the greatest performance out of the smallest area possible.

Nothing Phone (1) – Specification & Features

The company's unambiguous announcement of a partnership with Qualcomm in late 2021 doesn't rule out the likelihood that the Nothing Phone (1) would run on a Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 processor. According to reports, the latter's participation entails supplying Snapdragon technology to Nothing for use in "future items."

At the same time, Qualcomm makes a variety of CPUs, and the Phone (1) might very well use lower-cost silicon instead of Snapdragon technology, depending on how cost-effective the company wants to create its initial handset.

For the time being, the company has kept the specifics of this Snapdragon-powered Nothing smartphone under wraps, beginning with a stylized teaser image referring to the device's likely physical location.

A pill-shaped camera module appears to be at the upper left, while a huge piece in the middle appears to be a wireless charging coil, and the vertical lines at the bottom are thought to be for power input. A diagonal line represents an unknown element in the upper right corner.

However, even after cropping and improving the photograph, it's difficult to tell what the item in Pei's hands looks like. Since the company's founding, numerous idea designers have shared their thoughts on what Nothing's first smartphone may look like.

After trying S series of Samsung, Flagship killers of One Plus and iPhone. It’s clear that the Apple iPhone is better for a casual smartphone user. Be it optimization of OS, Fluid multitasking, or Camera Hardware, iPhone is good for a minimum of 3-4 years.

They are following (or redoing) what OnePlus did years back.

Unique Brand Name -> Hype -> Incredible Value For Money -> Clean Software -> Somewhat Distinguishing

When compared to OnePlus, they are in much better position, where many people know about the brand already.

They got the pricing pretty decent with Nothing TWS. If they get the pricing similar for the phone, they will get a decent sales for a first phone.
