PhonePe, the highest valued fintech firm in India standing at a massive valuation of $12 Billion is in news for doing a pilot launch of its quick commerce app PhonePe Pincode, a 20-minutes fast delivery app in India. Interestingly, PhonePe Pincode service was launched back in 2023. However, it’s only now that the fintech firm has decided to start quick commerce deliveries too.

PhonePe, which presently holds the highest market share in UPI space, has now gone live with its pilot launch for PhonePe Pincode app – A yet another new rival to BigBasket, Zepto, Blinkit, Neu Flash, Flipkart Minutes and even the upcoming players such as Amazon Tez and Myntra M-Now.

PhonePe Pincode Quick Delivery app: “Don’t need Dark Stores”

As per some reports, one of the sources from PhonePe Pincode has said “We figured delivery from a neighbourhood kirana store or a supermarket within 20 minutes can be done without setting up dark stores and that is what we are doing”

In essence, as all other major stores such as Blinkit, Zepto, and Swiggy Instamart rush to reach at least 500 - 1000 dark stores in India by the year 2025, PhonePe Pincode seems to be on a quest to play the quick commerce game differently.

PhonePe Pincode 20-minute Delivery: What to Expect?

PhonePe Pincode quick commerce app offers quick deliveries of everyday groceries such as fruits, vegetables, dairy products, meat, fish, and more, along with food & medicines, from local stores near you.

The app is built on ONDC Network and has already delivered over 1 Lakh orders. It is also a separate app available on Play Store and App Store.

The PhonePe Pincode grocery delivery app is piloting a quick delivery service in parts of Bengaluru, Delhi NCR, Mumbai, Pune, Hyderabad and Varanasi under which it delivers groceries and other products in 10-20 minutes.

Last time I had an ABSOLUTELY TERRIBLE experience with this app, order canceled most of the time and refund stuck for weeks. They had their chance. Won't try it again.

Does the failure of the Pincode have anything to do with the autonomy given to the stores?

All my issues with Pincode were directly caused by the stores:

1. The stores don’t bother updating product availability on the app. Their store page shows everything as "in stock". But when our order arrives, it’s like opening a mystery box—we never know what’s missing! And when we ask, they say, “Oh, that’s out of stock.”

2. They have a simple option to remove unavailable items from the order and refund the customer. For example, if they only have 5 packets of curd instead of the 6 we ordered, they could update the app, and Pincode would automatically process the refund.

3. They send whatever they have instead of what you actually ordered. If we order 500g of chili powder, they send 250g. If we order loose rajma at ₹150 per kg, they send loose chana and claim, “Well, the price of rajma is now ₹250, and chana is ₹150, so we gave you chana instead. Why are you upset?”

Used maily for Akshayakalpa for Next day delivery, and worked fine, when there was 30% discount, used very extensively.
Now the discounts are reduced and pincode also not serviceable.
