Zepto is the only big gun with a standalone quick commerce (10-min delivery of grocery, essentials, and more) business. It is 3rd (20% market share) in this segment behind Zomato’s Blinkit (40%) and Swiggy’s Instamart (37%). Just like others, Zepto has also introduced a Platform Fee which you now need to pay for every order. But not to worry, Zepto Coupons are to the rescue!

Anatomy-of-a-Zepto-bill

The company has also added a late night handling charge of ₹15 for each order placed after 11 pm. Zepto’s Platform Fee is fixed at ₹2 per order currently for select users (who order less). Besides, Blinkit and Instamart have the same price but during peak hours it goes up to ₹10. Zomato's Rs 2 Platform Fee also went viral after its introduction along with the Swiggy Platform Fee!

On the delivery fees front, Zepto charges ₹5-₹30 depending on various factors like order value, time, festival period, peak times, user’s AOV (average order value), etc. After the platform fee announcement, Zepto said:-

“We do not believe in being over-dependent on delivery fees to be profitable. We believe in core operating efficiency and cost reduction to be profitable. We are on track to achieve the EBITDA positive milestone even with much lower delivery charges. Zepto Pass is the quintessential example of this.”

This is the basic ploy used by all such merchants, first give loads of offers and create a customer base and then slowly start such charges. This will continue to happen, people may not order from Zepto and in sometime we will have some new app based delivery doling out offers.

I came to know from someone, if you download an app from Google play store, google charges some percentage on the order as well. Some apps find it eating in to their meager margins, but rarely any one complains or mentions. So now they are exploring other options to make available the apps. May be Phonepe is working something similar to that, what i heard, but not sure.

That's someone's knowledge is flawed.

Google Play charges service fees only for in-app purchases made using Google Play's billing system. There are addendums for other billing alternatives, but they do not apply to apps like Swiggy, Zomato, Zepto and Myntra.

So, no, these apps do not pay a cut to Play Store for the orders that customers place on their platforms.

Yeh Zepto Pass hai Aandaah Pass!

I purchased stupid pass only to see handling charge go up 30% from ₹7 to ₹9. Plis give option to order without handling, bcoz I prefer my delivery items maximum hygienic, untouched by human!😉

I'm aam aadmi, not F&O trader. This complicated price structure, including month-only duration pass, takes away from convenience of "instant" groceries.

Zepto struggling as weak #3 in industry. Now, will go quickly to #0, gone.
