Google on 16th May 2023 announced a new update to the inactive Google Account policies. Google to Delete Accounts: How to Keep Your Google Account Active?

Is Google Deleting Accounts?

Google announced an update to its inactive account policies stating that personal Google accounts that are not used in the last 2 years will be deleted permanently.

Google has stated to start the process of deleting inactive Google accounts from December 2023 onwards.

However, there are some users who are claiming that Google has already locked them out of their Google Account a month prior to this announcement.

It is important to note that by Google Account, Google means all the data associated with your account including your Workspace, Sheets, Docs, Gmail, Drive, etc.

How to Keep Your Google Account Active?
  • Reading or sending an email

  • Using Google Drive

  • Watching a YouTube video

  • Downloading an app on the Google Play Store

  • Using Google Search

  • Using Sign in with Google to sign in to a third-party app or service

These are some of the ways you can keep your Google Account active. These ways are stated by Google itself.

Also, before deleting an account, Google has stated to send multiple notifications to your email address or your recovery email address (if provided). So do keep an eye out for the same if you have an inactive Google account.

Additionally, if you have subscribed to a service such as Google One, a news publication, or an app, Google will take this information into consideration and your account will not be impacted.
