Here are some of the advantages of a portable air conditioner unit:

—Portable air conditioners are not fixed in a certain location like window units. They are compact freestanding units and can be easily moved and transported from place to place easily.Portable air conditioners can be used all year, even when cooling is not needed. These air cooling systems also function as fans and as dehumidifiers.
—Most of these portable air conditioner units come with caster wheels, an exhaust duct, and a window vent kit.
—Some portable air conditioner units also have heat option, so your portable air conditioner unit can also be used during winter and provide year-round home comfort.
—Portable air conditioner units are more energy efficient cooling systems and consume less energy compared to windows and split air conditioning systems

any evidence to support this??
look at the power consumption and rated cooling capacity.

sure …… above poster is partially right the power consumption is slightly higher than the same priced Electrolux, godrej consumes 1735W whereas electrolux consumes 1710W. Not such a big difference though.

I would have gone for the electrolux but i owned an electrolux frontload washing machine that too fully imported from Italy and that gave me endless trouble and after my harrowing experience with electrolux, I have vowed never to go for there products again … unless they give it to me free … and I only have to pay for maintenance.

Of course carrier, daikin, general, hitachi would be better no doubt about it dimers should go for it if you can. In my case i have to buy 5 a/c’s and i dont buy in emi so to keep costs down went for for the cheaper ones.

I will let you all know if its worth buying or not.

I bought the one from snapdeal, price came to Rs 48980/- for two pcs, if you us the 2% off coupon so should be Rs24490/- each

http://www.snapdeal.com/product/godrej-15-tr-3-…

Haha i didn’t even know i had written about the elctrolux machine … totally forgot …. personally for me it was a sub standard product and very bad after sales service. Should have scrapped it long ago. Also this was my personal experience some other person may have had a better experience but for me once bitten twice shy.

If you have time check out retail shops / dealers for carrier its just marginally more expensive. for eg Godrej MRP is Rs33099/- while for same type of carrier ac (3 * 1.5T) its just MRP Rs34100/-

http://www.carriermideaindia.com/carrier/duraed…

so if u get a good discount similar to what snapdeal has given for godrej it will be almost the same price as godrej

we have been using o general acs for almost 7 years now. i am from rajasthan where the current temp. is almost 45c. i am fan of this company and have installed 6 acs in all my rooms and offices. one you turn it on and stays in the room you never need to worry about the temp.

piece of advice to save electricity and from heavy bill always run your ac at temp of 24-25c when you are using ac for long run during 24 hrs. o general gives you bang for bucks although it cost you 50000/- initially including fitting and stabilizer.

Not only this but each and every croma brand appliances is a scrap.

Edit- guys try ZAMIL ac. Its new in India but very good in cooling. Please check service center before purchasing.

If there is voltage fluctuation in your area or if your area is prone to frequent power cuts better to go for stabilizer.

There is no power cut in my area but i dont know about voltage fluctuation, if voltage fluctuates the lights would dim but that hasn’t happened
should i still buy stabilizer? i have not bought one.

Your decision then………….do other people in your area use a stabilizer ? If no then probably you can do without it.

Arre kahin us AC ki baat to nahi kar rahe, jis ki ad mein Aamir Khan aata hai? https://cdn2.desidime.com/assets/textile-editor/icon_toungueout.gif

It’s just a marketing gimmick.
Power consumption of all ≤ 1.5T ACs is similar to that of a hair dryer.

Hair dryers consume a lot of power.

It’s just psychological… not true…
Hair dryers → small in size → do not consume much power.

Also, we always feel appliances like ACs, storage water heaters, refrigerators, room heaters, etc., consume a lot of power and cost a lot to run. Hair dryers are not in this list. The reason for this is not because hair dryers do not consume much power… their power consumption is similar to that of ACs, room heaters, etc… the reason is, appliances like ACs, room heaters, etc. are always on/used regularly for several hours. Hair dryers, on the other hand are not used regularly, and when they are, they are not used for more than a couple of minutes.

That being said, this particular Godrej AC (GSC 18F G7BLG) does consume slightly less power than similar (1.5T, 5 star split) ACs from other brands, but there is a catch. I was going through the technical specifications of various 1.5T, 5 star split ACs and I saw that the average cooling capacity of ACs of different brands is approximately 5,200 W. The cooling capacity of this Godrej AC is 4,900 W.

@Achilles

That’s true.

General ACs are very expensive. (IMO, slightly overpriced)
Daikin ACs are slightly cheaper than General ACs, but still quite expensive.
Carrier ACs, on the other hand are cheapest of the lot. AFAIK, price difference between Carrier and ordinary brands is not much.
Try to find a good deal on Carrier AC online/offline.
By the way, are you buying a window AC or a split AC?

Compressors, the main component of ACs are very sensitive to voltage fluctuations.
Even minor voltage fluctuations can damage them permanently/reduce their lifespan.
Repair/replacement of compressor is very expensive.

Try to buy a branded voltage stabilizer.
Brand recommendation…
1. V-Guard
2. Logicstat/bluebird (if you live in Delhi NCR)

Currently can find just Lloyd 1 ton on tradus & shopclues ~ 22k and one on Croma (their own brand) ~ 23k https://cdn1.desidime.com/assets/textile-editor/icon_confused.gif
(haven’t yet tried to find anything offline)

I also searched and found LLyod and Croma portable ACs …..those ACs are great and cheaper to use than multiple ACs…. it becomes a problem if people dont use them properly becoz hot air duct pipe should be adjusted in a such a way that hot air gets out of room….

@cm4444 Can u plz share ur views on that…

I went to a Daikin dealer yesterday and got this price quote:

Daikin:
Tonnage – Model – MRP – Price offered
1.5 T 5 star FT50M 44,500 – 42720
1.5 T 3 star FTE50 36700 – 35232
1.5 T Invertor FTKV50 4900 – 47040

Extra charges:
V guard – 2500
Installation – 1500
Copper piping – 750 per metre x 3
Clamp – 750

Does anyone know any online store which sells Daikin at a lower price?
Is Daikin a good choice considering brand, service history etc?
Should be going for Daikin, or for Carrier or General, in your opinion? Why?
