Could anyone recommend any good 3-5 star Carrier ACs? I’ll try offline once I get a list of ones I can look at. I’d have chosen Daikin, but though they have a dealer in our city, there is not a single service centre in Kerala. Carrier on the other hand does, but their website seems to be a pain to navigate. I couldnt even find a list of Split ACs.
Edit: I’m thinking of going for a Carrier 5 star Estrella 38KGV-018A. Unfortunately I have no idea of its price.

the lg, I just got it about a month ago….bargained at a local store and was able to get it for 29k

The LG has 4 way cooling..the louvers move both horizontally and vertically so you have control over where the air is being thrown

I got Daikin recently @ trivandrum.
They say servicing is not direct n it’s done through daikin appointed partners, which in my case was maxcool systems.
I called up daikin toll free n they confirmed the same.
If not daikin, i would have gone for the good old voltas – from my exp, it’s actually reliable too…as mr. moorthy says in between IPL overs
Purchased 1.5 Ton O General 3 Star Window AC Awesome!

Thanks for your input. Could I ask where in Trivandrum? Location of the dealer, name and phone if available, please? I’m in Trivandrum, so if even third party warranty service is available, I could go for Daikin. Officially the only dealer in Trivandrum is one at Thakaraparambu.

Thanks Sam, that helps a lot.
Does anyone know what the equivalent function of 4 way/3D cooling, in Carrier ACs is? They list “Rotary compressor”, “Scroll compressor” etc.
Also, how can I exactly calculate and decide on a capacity for the AC I require based on volume of the room? Is there a general guide on how to decide whether I need a 1, 1.5 or 2 Ton AC?
What kind of difference in electricity bills can we expect when moving between 2,3,4 and 5 star ACs? Is there a huge difference between 3 and 5 star ACs?

I called both parties and option 1 quoted lower price. But went with option 2 just because they were closer home, and then made them match the price.
And what about brand LLOYD? Nobody is talking about it!
I’m using Working Fine !!!
what abt this portable ac from croma brand of Tata
http://www.cromaretail.com/Croma-1-Ton-CRC1067-...
I am going to buy it in 2-3 days becoz it will serve my purpose of 3 ACs. no need to buy separate AC for drawing room etc. or pooja room where we spend only few hours.
It is great for those who prefer to keep more than one room cool at home without installing a set of ACs.
what do u say guys!!

Yeah thanks
I found that even LG offer many portable ACs but not in India …
LLOYD
don’t waste money on portable air conditioner. one senior dimer has already quoted reviews from mouth shut that these are worse than even coolers. in India we don’t have much choices in this category. this one from croma is a scrap.
@Joel
1. Scroll compressor – more efficient, more durable, expensive
Rotary compressor – most commonly used, cheaper
For all the pros and cons of scroll and rotary compressor, consult a HVAC expert.
2. AC tonnage calculator…
http://www.bluestarindia.com/ac-tonnage-calcula...
http://www.lg.com/in/support/ac-tonnage-calc...or
3. Star ratings… I don’t have have much idea…
Check out this AC energy calculator (Thanks, Oliver bro!)…

It varies…. If you don’t lay mattress on the bed then you will say the bed are not good…
If you don’t plug cable/dish tv in your LED tv then that does not mean TV is a problem…
Actually with that portable AC, the only care u need to do is that you need to adjust pipe with hot air in such a way that it throws hot air outside the room instead of inside the room….. U are able to take care of that then that AC is a wonderful piece to use..
People generally see negative only… Read the following reviews from same website;
I bought it too, i ran it for 5 hrs and it is doing well. The water gets pumped out if it gets full in the tub. You can also drain it manually other wise it also pumps the water out once it reaches the Max capacity.
Cooling is not extremely great but this is a portable AC and u need to keep the window or door open to vent out the hot exhaust air. It shows room temperature as 30-31deg in Chennai and when u on it, it comes down to 28degs but the rooms seems to be cool enough to live in.
This AC is for places where u cant install an normal AC like Halls, Corridors, Computer room where u may spend only 3 or 4hrs to surf and dont want to invest a lot on AC.
So far it is good but the Customer Service is very bad. I bought it because it is a TATA and i hope they look into their service more.
ha ha ! i think you were trying to use a mercedes to plough a field!
i fully agree with kKARTHIK_AC.i had bought it 1 yr back and i use it in the radius of its duct to cool my kitchen,my puja room and my living room as required.its a great utility.in a way it saved me the cost of three split ACs, and i am not going to sit in any of these places for 5-6 hrs anyways .it just makes the living conditions better.my mom is all praises for its work in the kitchen.
and for the manual emptying problem pls call the service center ,i also had a similar problem and it was corrected.

Means its pipe will lay on the floor like ethernet cable for laptop
Then it will not be that much portable. How long/flexible pipe you will connect to it?

what do u do in case of split ACs……isn’t that working on kind of similar concept…?
the difference is that u fix it and its pipe but in case of portable AC we have both movable….. Some compromise one has to do if want to buy one AC only but having benefit in whole of the home……. if you can afford multiple ACs then there is no use of Portable AC for youdesmataks wrote:

How you can fix such a pipe on moving object that will blow air outside the home. Even if you attach such pipe, then what it will look like? You portable AC won’t remain portable with such pipe either on the floor or fixed on wall.
